Honda has introduced the Civic Hatchback prototype ahead of its debut at the New York Auto Show.
Looking virtually identical to the concept that was shown in Geneva earlier this month, the car previews the 2017 production model that will be unveiled later this year.
Honda didn't have much to say about the car's styling but the model follows in the footsteps of the Civic Sedan and features a stylish front fascia with LED headlights. Designers also added muscular fenders, a center-mounted dual exhaust system, and two tailgate-mounted spoilers.
Honda is keeping details under wraps but the automaker confirmed the model will be built on the same platform as the sedan and be offered exclusively with a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine in the United States. Honda declined reveal performance figures but the engine should produce 174 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. That's not terribly powerful but automaker confirmed plans to offer the turbocharged engine with either a six-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission.
In related news, Honda revealed both the Civic Si and Civic Type R will be added to the lineup sometime next year.
