These are the latest spy shots of a prototype for the second generation of Chevrolet’s Cruze compact sedan. The new Cruze was originally due late this year but its release has been pushed back to late 2015, which means we’re likely to see it list as a 2016 model.
The delay will enable engineers to make further changes to the vehicle as well as allow Chevrolet to earn more sales of the current model, which remains popular with shoppers. The Cruze is Chevy’s best-selling nameplate worldwide, having garnered more than two million sales since its launch in 2009.
The 2016 Cruze will be slightly longer than the current model, with most of the increase featuring in the rear section. This should translate to more space for rear seat passengers and additional storage in the trunk.
Influencing the look of the car appears to be 2012’s Chevrolet Tru 140S concept. The swoopy front section and tail-light configuration matches nicely with what we see on the concept. Though it’s yet to be confirmed, the 2016 Cruze may eventually spawn a coupe variant even more closely aligned with the Tru 140S concept, which itself was a coupe.
Production of the 2016 Cruze for the U.S. market will continue at General Motors' plant in Lordstown, Ohio, where the current model has been assembled since 2010. Underpinning it will be an upgraded version of the current model’s Delta II platform, possibly dubbed D2XX, which will replace both the Delta II and Theta platforms in the General Motors Company [NYSE:GM] portfolio.
D2XX will spawn everything from hatchbacks to crossovers and will feature in the next generation of the Chevy Volt and Cadillac ELR extended-range electric cars, as well as in the next Chevrolet Equinox, GMC Terrain, Opel Astra and a new crossover from Buick.
As for the 2016 Cruze’s powertrain lineup, expect the current offerings to carry over with only minor improvements. This means a range of four-cylinder units, including the 2.0-liter turbodiesel recently added to the current Cruze lineup. In other markets, the 2016 Cruze may be available with GM's new three-cylinder engine recently announced for the Opel Adam minicar.

Após ter o projeto atrasado em um ano, a nova geração do Cruze está de volta aos testes, como mostra este flagra da publicação norte-americana Motor Trend. A principal novidade fica por conta das fotos mais próximas e do protótipo com um pouco menos de camuflagem, o que permitiu conferir que nossas projeções publicadas no ano passado (abaixo) estão realmente bastante próximas do modelo final.

Em relação ao carro atual, o Cruze manterá a grade dividida (tradicional Chevrolet), mas ganhará faróis angulosos e perfil mais esportivo. Na traseira, a coluna “C” ficará mais larga e as lanternas ficarão mais estreitas, além de trazerem lentes brancas na parte superior. A tampa do porta-malas terá uma espécie de spoiler embutido. Por dentro, é esperado um acréscimo no volume do porta-malas e da cabine, notadamente no espaço para os passageiros do banco de trás. O visual também será mais moderno, embora o layout dos comandos seja semelhante ao de hoje.

Sucesso de vendas em diversos mercados, especialmente nos Estados Unidos, o Cruze ganhou importância dentro da estratégia global da Chevrolet. Tanto que a próxima geração terá o privilégio de estrear a nova plataforma Delta da General Motors, que também dará origem a outros modelos do grupo, como o novo Opel Astra e o Chevrolet Volt. A GM já anunciou, inclusive, que o Cruze deixará de ser fabricado na Coreia do Sul para ocupar as fábricas da Opel na Europa, atualmente com a demanda baixa por conta da crise.

Afora a plataforma inédita, pouco-se sabe ainda sobre a parte mecânica do novo Cruze. Nos EUA cogita-se que o motor 1.4 turbo seja substituído pelo novo 1.6 turbo (de 180 cv e 23,4 kgfm, já lançado na Austrália no modelo atual) para abrir maior vantagem de torque e potência para o Ecotec 1.8 16V (também oferecido no Brasil). Já as transmissões de seis marchas deverão ser mantidas – provavelmente atualizadas e com borboletas na direção para trocas manuais, no caso do câmbio automático.
Lançado no Brasil em setembro de 2011, o Cruze começou a ser produzido em São Caetano do Sul (SP) com muitos componentes importados da Coreia, até que aos poucos foi sendo nacionalizado. Pois a próxima geração pode deixar as linhas brasileiras e ser transferida para a Argentina. A expectativa é que a novidade seja apresentada no segundo semestre de 2014, como linha 2015, nos EUA. Por aqui, 2016 é uma boa data para apostar.

Chevrolet Cruze will be unveiled later this year

General Motors has unveiled their new generation of Ecotec small displacement engines.
Built on a modular architecture, the engines promise to deliver "leading-edge efficiency, refinement and durability." They will also be highly adaptable and less complex to produce.
11 engines will be part of the new Ecotec family and they will be three- and four-cylinder units with displacements ranging from 1.0- to 1.5-liters. Detailed specifications were not released but GM confirmed the engines will have outputs ranging from 75 bhp (56 kW) to 165 bhp (123 kW). Some of the engines will be equipped with turbochargers, while others will support hybrid and alternative fuel applications.
The turbocharged 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine recently debuted in the Opel Adam, while the next-generation Chevrolet Cruze will be offered with four-cylinder units. The turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder will produce approximately 148 bhp (110 kW) and 173 lb-ft (235 Nm) of torque, while the naturally-aspirated 1.5-liter four-cylinder should develop 113 bhp (84 kW) and 108 lb-ft (146 Nm) of torque. GM went on to say the next-generation Chevrolet Cruze will be "specifically tailored for China" and launched later this year as a 2015 model.
The engines will be built at five different plants - China, Hungary, Mexico, South Korea and the United States - and General Motors expects to produce more than 2.5 million annually by 2017.  They will eventually be used in 27 different models by the 2017 model year.

Neste ponto a GM vai perder feio para a Ford em questão de tecnologia, e quando tiver de começar a demitir, vai por a culpa no mercado....

Acho que aqui, a Chevrolet está conseguindo manter aquela fidelidade (burra, na minha opinião), onde "é um Chevrolet" serve para justificar qualquer porcaria.
Notem que, para variar, tais motores são filhos da não lucrativa faz tempo, Opel.

A General Motors acaba de anunciar nova geração para seus motores Ecotec, produzidos com arquitetura modular e que prometem mais refinamento, durabilidade e, principalmente, maior eficiência no consumo de combustível. No total são 11 motores, com deslocamento entre 1.0 e 1.5 Litros, e podem receber variações adaptadas a conjuntos híbridos, combustíveis alternativos e com turbocompressores.


A GM não detalhou motor por motor, mas anunciou que a potência deles varia entre 75 e 165 cavalos. O menor deles, o 1.0 de três cilindros, já é o usado pelo Opel Adam e o 1.4 Turbo de 148 cavalos e 24 kgfm de torque equipará a nova geração do Chevrolet Cruze, que será apresentada no segundo semestre, assim como o 1.5 aspirado de 113 cv, apenas para a versão chinesa do modelo.
Os motores serão fabricados em cinco plantas diferentes, localizadas na China , Hungria , México, Coréia do Sul e Estados Unidos, e a GM espera produzir mais de 2,5 milhões por ano até 2017. Eles acabarão sendo utilizados em 27 modelos diferentes até 2017.

E enquanto isso, por aqui, a moderníssima e agora premiada fábrica de Joinville, continua a fazer mais do mesmo: motores derivados de projetos da época do Monza e com tecnologia contida nos mesmos em ZERO!
